Exploring my genre

Music video trends

Progress review so far

How successful is the blog?

The blog was successful in post and pre production planning and research, as a group we knew where we were and what we had to do. We had a very detailed pitch which gave us a lot of information about what days we're filming and editing and research on other artists in our genre so that we have a brief idea of shots and shot types while filming.

How happy are you with your blog?

I'm satisfied with my blogs as I'm working hard to get back on track but they're not as detailed i would like or use as much of the ict software I wanted to initially.

What would you mark yourself out of 20 marks

Honestly I'll mark myself a 11-12 because it's not as detailed as I would like but I do feel like my blogs at the beginning were very promising as i used other ict formats and they were really detailed compared to my more recent ones.

Reflection on response to feedback

From our rough cut we got told to to make sure that "every clip hits the beats."
We took that into accord and tried our hardest to get it on the beat but we got told a second to get it "exactly on the beat." And we got it that time

We got told to build up our "structure" so keep our chorus to the artists and the little verses to the narrative.
That was very easy for us to do as only a few of our clips went into the chorus or where to slow into the chorus.

We got told to "keep the night shots for the end"
We tried to keep most of our night shots in the end so that our clips went in order or time but we found that we didn't have enough night shots so we could use a lot at the end only the ones we had.

We were reminded to be mindful of the "head space" in our shots
So we were being very selective and changing the motion and cropping the picture so that head space wasn't too much.

Reflection on editing rough cut

There are two rough cuts the first one is a Normal rough cut that stops at the chorus and the second rough cut is the same but with a monochrome filter.

After reviewing the feedback that received about the monochrome filter and how it shouldn't be on the Performance shots. That was taking into account but then as a group we decided that the monochrome filter wasn't good and we got told that it was hiding and distracting from our emotive shots so we decided to scrap that and just dim the brightness instead.

Reflection of editing on markers

My group found it difficult to place the markers and the clips in sync because the audio track we used was from YouTube and the track we used during filming was from soundcloud which was faster than the original.

So we had to camtasia just the audio and then put the audio into a MP3 file and set that as our audio soundtrack. These then made it easier for us mark up the clips to the sound track.

We added the beats after every 'ahh' for the narration and then for the performance a marker was put on the starting lyric on every two lines
So that there was no confusion the 'ahh' was coloured red/pink and the lyric makers stayed green.

The

Individual review

Throughout filming and editing I had a vision of how I wanted the music video to look and with the amount of redrafting that had to be done with the storyboard surprisingly still made my vision for the video to come true which I'm really happy for.

There were a few parts of the music video I hasn't feeling too confident about like the ending but with the night shot and the time lapse but when I saw it on the big screen in the cinema it looked alright. We dimmed the brightness on the narrative shots because the filters were terrible but will viewing I felt as though the dim was dark enough however it still fulfilled the sad message that being put across.

Feedback Review

After filming the audience feedback and putting it up on the blog I started reflecting and watching what they said for the review.

I was so happy with the feedback we received as everyone enjoyed it and thought it was very good compared to the rough cut feed backs we received where people we re giving us constructive criticism.

Most of the worries and doubts that were there were covered with everyone's great reviews.

Wider Audience Feedback

We also received feedback from our wider audience, I'm glad they enjoyed it !

Target Audience Feedback

We received feedback from a target audience member, I'm really happy with the feed back, I'm glad that she enjoyed it!

47. Importance of function of digipak & to music industry

What is a cross promotional package?
It is different media forms that work alongside each other to promote the same thing in this case my artist.
Within cross promotional packages, there are digipaks and websites for the artist. these are used to help with saturating the audience .

What is a website?
A website is a platform/ internet page that uses images , links and codes to promote the artist.

What is a digipak:
A CD package with specific art work that promotes the artist and the artists album.
-It is a modern approach to CD packaging
- Allows the artist to include mor information about themself  adding extra value to the artist.

What should be on the digipak?
-the artists names , it should be clear and bigger than the album name as you want the audience to remmeber the name of the artist as the artist
- the font and colour scheme should have no more than 2 different font types and no more than 3 different colour schemes this should also be the same on the website, it should have the same colour scheme and font types.
-it should have a promotional stivket .

Tracklisting within the Digipak:
- should have same font as artist name
- production information for example, copyright/ year of production, distrubioutor & price of digipak

The image of the artist should have an echo visual style of colour scheme

Overall
the digipak should have no more than 3-4 colours , no more than 2 different font types and it must create some sort of visual link to the artists website. The digipak is an important feature to helping the artists gain a fanbase.

Changes to the blog

I made changes to the blog to engage the target and wider audience and also to fit her genre of of music

Friday, 27 November 2015

Feedback from our target audience.

From receiving this feedback we have decided to add some of the advice they had given us by making some of the scenes black and white to insinuate the emotional atmosphere created throughout the narrative scenes. Also we have decided to change some of the shots around and descend from day to night throughout the music video.

Targets for next lesson.

From the reflection on progress post for next lesson we are aiming to complete the whole of the song as in our rough cut it is only around 1 minute and 30 seconds long.
We are also now starting to add our edits such as jump cuts, transitions etc to make the video flow better and have better technical aspects throughout so that the video is more effective.
However, the deadline is in just over a week so we also aim to do lots of more work outside of lesson time so that we can hopefully complete the video before the deadline.

Rough cut feedback

ROUGH CUT

Reflection on progress

As you can see we have been using our Instagram account to update where we have been filming and any problems we are facing.

We found that when we went to film Summer's single mum scene in the park it was very busy and we decided as a group it wouldn't be appropriate to film in this location. Therefore there was a similar park that was close to Summer's house that was quiet and much better to get the shots we needed.

This park is called Morton park and is located near Essex Road Station.

When we first started editing we put our clips into two folders the clips that we was going to use and the clips that we was not going to be using due to the quality etc. This was useful as we could identify our clips easier when it came to editing, we also decided as a group to rename each clip so that we did not have the problem of having to look at each clip individually.

From doing this everything was going really well.... then we realised that because when filming we used the the music app 'Soundcloud' to play the song Explosions. This was a different version to the original song and was slightly faster, so the lip syncing was not working due to this.

So we had to re do all of our markers we had put in place on our timeline and download the version we had used when filming. This was very stressful as we felt as though we had wasted a lot of our time, we came back from this and managed to catch up and our editing is now going very well.  We are going to be posting clips that we recorded through camtasia later on to indicate this.

Filming pictures

We found that when filming on London Bridge that there was a lots of people walking around as it is a main location for tourists to go. However we were able to film a lot of great shots that are very effective in our video which we will be adding up shortly as a rough cut.

We were able to film throughout the whole day travelling to Piccadilly circus and film our time lapse and a variety of long, medium and close up shots.

Production Diary 2

10/11/15
Today we had a shorter lesson so we wasn't able to do much, today we marked all of the base tracks on a key word and added them into the timeline. We also decided to add more markers to the song on where we think there should be a change in base tracks or scenes.

13/11/15
Today we started off the narrative to the song, we looked over all the clips again and decided what clips to use first. When filming we filmed in 3 minute intervals as we thought we would have just dragged the video on to the time line and cut, but after we realised that it wasn't necessary as we would be selecting clips and cutting at random points.

Filming Day 2/Final - Vivian

Today we filmed at Angel station and a small park. We met up a bit later than planned but all of our filming was done. First we filmed Ernestina's (the homeless actor) at angel station. We then filmed shots of her walking toward the market. I filmed a variety of shots, from close up shots to extreme long shots; furthermore we also had different angels of the actor to ensure we have loads of different shot types and angels to choose from when editing. After we filmed Summer's (the teen mum actor) scenes, we were unable to film Summer's shots at our original location (Culpeper Park) as it was too busy and we were unable to film therefore we changed the location to a small park close by. Other than that we have finished filming all of our scenes for both narrative scenes and performance. Overall it has been a successful filming day!!

Filming day 1 - Vivian

Today we filmed the artists scenes at London Bridge , South Bank and Piccadilly Circus. We had a successful day of filming. We filmed various shot types which will add a variety to the music video. We filmed all of the artists' base tracks and also filmed the time lapse at Piccadilly Circus. Overall it has been a successful day of filming! Tomorrow we will be filming the actors scenes (Teen Mum and Homeless girl) at angel. Keep up with our progress by following us on Instagram @candimedia21
Filming crew !!!
Artist at London Bridge

Issues we came across while filming :
We found a number of issues whilst filming. We found that people would constantly be walking past the camera whilst filming, we tried to overcome this issue by  making it clear to the public that we were filming in hopes that they would walk around. This resolved our issue by a little bit but people did carry on walking by the camera. We can try to overcome this issue completely tomorrow by filming in less busy place and making it very clear to the public that we are filming.

Moreover another issue we came across was that at times the artist could not hear the the song therefore she was unable to  lip sync completely in time even when we used the speakers. If there are any scenes to be re-shot because of this issue it shall be filmed on another spare filming day.

Pitch10: ancillary draft work

Pitch 9. Draft digipak(Ernestina)

Pitch 1 : Song Choice - Vivian

Pitch 7. Costume- Summer.

This is what Ernestina is going to be using as part of her costume the blanket is to wrap around her and the bin bags to carry her belongings in.

This is what Summer is going to be wearing to dress as a typical teenage mum and represent her self as a stereotypical single parent.

Furthermore the main artist; Vivian Vu. We have decided to give her a range of outfits as this is what is seen in a lot of pop music videos and we feel this will give the audience a better idea of her style of fashion and may appeal to her target audience.
The main look we are going for is very indie but dull due to the lyrics within the song and we want her outfit to reflect this.

Either one of these two dungarees may be an idea for the artist to wear.
These are the boots that the artist is gong to be wearing along with the high knee socks, the outfit may vary but this is the ideal style we are going for.

Pitch 8. Synergy (Summer)

One key visual element: Red lips and beanie hat.

This will be very noticeable on the main artist throughout the video and we also be a key identification in my ancillary product.

The beanie hat is very effective as it will be worn the whole way throughout the music video and will go well with the red lipstick.

This gives the artist a indie/pop look which is our genre and will allow the audience to be intrigued by her appearance. In the ancillary texts it is key that we can notice the red lipstick and beanie on the artist as this is her main 'props' throughout the video. Therefore by using this in both of the two it links them together and allows the artist to be identified from these two visual elements. This may also appeal to the target audience as from them seeing the artist being presented in this way they may aspire to want to have the same appearance and also use red-lipstick and a beanie hat to be like her. This is what a lot of artists do to create their image to their specific audience and to create a distinctive look for themselves.
