Do's and Donts

DO's:

  • It is essential to stick to a minimum of at least two fonts and to make sure that they complement each other and are obviously appropriate for the genre of your choice.
  • Stick to three main colours and again make sure they complement each other.
  • To use good quality photos so that they are clear and in focus. Also to make sure they are appropriate size for the size of your pane.
  • Follow the rule of thrids for composition.
  • Include copyright information, barcode, company logo, title of the album.

DONTS:
  • Use unnecessary effects they must suit your genre. Also dont over do it on the photoshop.
  • Stretch images to fit the panel as it will become out of focus and will not look as good quality.
  • Put the text across the artist's face.
  • Use fonts because you like them... they must go with eachother and the genre of your artist
  • Feel the need to have a photo on every panel. When researching you will come across that a lot of artist only have photo on the front cover of the album.

Question 3

Here I am showing you an example of how I used photoshop:

Here is my animatic:

Researching ancillary products

Through researching similar artists to my genre I was able to get an idea of what sort of style and fonts to use and give me any initial ideas that I would be interested in using for my own work.

Ellie Goulding - Indie Pop
Album name: Halcyon

The central image shows a non direct mode of address image of Ellie Goulding using a close up. There are no other images on the digipak as the main focus has to be on the artist. The colour used is black and white and they have very bold writing to make it stand out to the audience. It is about medium sized so that it isn't too bold and is suttle on the front of the digipak. The theme black and white insinuates a melancholic atmosphere as it is very plain and isn't bursting with colour or happiness.

Question 4

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Rough cut;

  • We received some feedback from our first rough cut even though we wasn't fully finished at the time, we were able to then adjust these on to our final product.
  • From the feedback we decided to take off the black and white filter as it didn't look very professional and the quality of it wasn't as good.
  • We also decided to descend the shots from day to night as it would look more realistic and the target audience will be able to notice this and be more intrigued into the music video.
Here is the feedback:

This is some of the feedback we received after the cinema screening I feel that everyone was really moved by our video as it was a very emotional song and the video presented this and created the atmosphere we were aiming for. Therefore I felt it was very successful.

I have learned from our feedback that as a group we take on board very well what people say and adapt this to our own original ideas to still create a conventional music video that will apply to our target audience. It was also a proud moment for all of us as we were able to watch all of our hard work together as a class and see how much everyone had improved their videos from the use of audience feedback to then all create such successful music videos.

Audience reaction:
The audience throughout the cinema screening were dead quiet compared to other music videos where people were singing/laughing and very loud. I feel this is because it was a very strong and emotional music video and everyone was therefore very intrigued by the moving video and were focused on the storyline and what was going on. This created a very emotive atmosphere within the cinema as the lyrics of the song were also quite sad.

Ancillary products:

I have received some very positive feedback with my ancillary work , they have said that the synergy works very well with the use of colours, fonts, images, and the key signifiers the red lips and beanie hat.

54. Overview of artists costume

This is a slide show of what my artist will be wearing during my ancillary products. This includes the dungarees, hat and black turtle neck. Although the burgundy cardigan will not be used in my ancillary work because it was not a key costume, I have still included it in the slideshow. The reason why I chose the white dungarees to be in my ancillary work instead of the cardigan is because the artist is seen in more shots with the white dungarees therefore making it costume that stands out more. I think that the costume suits the genre indie pop as indie music is often refereed to be quite vintage and hipster and I feel like this costume does illustrate this style. Moreover the colour of the dungarees gives it a pop feel to the ancillary work as it is bright and stands out. The hybrid of both will attract it to the target audience.

health check level 2

33 posts - good
- Lots of photos/images should be presented in a slideshow
-       You should avoid posting worksheets and handouts from lessons in future, but if you are going to then make sure they are the right way around. Always consider the best way of presenting your work
- Embed ICT rather than simply posting a link i.e production schedule
-       Keep updating your planning and drawing conclusions/making changes based on feedback. I would like to see a final, best copy of your storyboard or an animatic for further drafting and a reflection on the feedback you got.

Some really good work
- Check over your blog and make sure all posts are completely finished i.e 'Reflection of editing on markers' 9th December is unfinished and ends mid sentence.
- Remember to make the best use of ICT in your posts. Lots of photos/images should be presented in a slideshow and embed ICT rather than simply posting a link. This will all improve your mark for presentation.
- Audit your blog. Using your blogging checklist (or get a new one from me) start from the very beginning of your blog, back in September, tick each blog post off making sure they are all completed, well-presented and there are no errors or problems with it. We are coming towards the end of the coursework now so this is your very last opportunity to improve your research and planning mark.

Research into band websites.

Below are a few screenshots that I have taken when looking into similar artists websites and how the layout is presented and the choice of colours used etc. This will allow me to adapt the information founded to my own ideas for my ancillary products. The artist below is Ellie Goulding, who sings the song that we chose to use in our music video. As you can see she uses very pastel colours and has a very simple layout that indicates her simplicity compared to other artist who may stand out as a lot bolder than Ellie Goulding.
